With the continuing spread of COVID-19 we understand that many of you may have children home out of school and daycare. Keeping a normal routine and schedule can greatly help little ones during these difficult times. Here are some pointers to help keep your children intrigued and busy during their time at home!

Set A Routine

Kids are used to following a schedule at school, so creating one at home can help things fall into place! The goal is to keep them interested and busy while also allowing you to get things done. You can use the framework of their school routine to guide you in making time for things such as play, learning, building, art, physical activities and snack times.

Dedicate Time For Play

Carving out time for dedicated child-led play is huge for kids. They learn by creating, imagining, inventing and building! In your new schedule, have a few 30-minute blocks of time of dedicated child led play. The more they play, the more they learn!

Find Easy Indoor Activities

Easy indoor activities create a great break in the day and allow your little one's imagination to run free! Click here for some great ideas to get started with today!

Use Educational Resources Online

There are a ton of online educational resources for kids of all ages, including Khan Academy, Belouga, National Geographic Kids and Learning Ladders. And author Nir Eyal’s free schedule building tool is very helpful.

We hope you all will enjoy this unexpected time with your kiddos! Remember to keep it fun and be realistic about the plan you make.

Sleep deprivation can have a significant impact on both your mind and body. In addition to perpetuating serious health conditions, lack of sleep can negatively affect your mood and temperament, as well as your ability to focus on daily tasks. Plus, lack of sleep influences what and how much you eat. Since hormones are regulated during sleep, when you are sleep deprived, your hunger hormones become out of whack, which increases feelings of hunger and decreases satiety. It's not a coincidence that you find yourself reaching for bagels and muffins when you're exhausted.

The 4th of July is one of the best cookout days of the year, and not just for humans. I don't have firm stats on this, but I'm pretty sure more hot dogs and hamburgers are dropped by kids and stolen by dogs than any other day of the year, so of course our furry friends love the holiday.
